it is always a good idea to do drills solo! if you lot have a floor length mirror, that's ideal. i don't usually recommend learning drills solo because there'due south plenty of nuance with good form and such, simply if you can discover a mentor willing to tutor over video call, that would exist awesome for working out those details.
there are some great tutorials on beginners footwork and posture online, and i've even considered making some introductory videos myself. the iv cardinal aspects of footwork are: advances, retreats, lunges, and lunge recovery. just holding a rapier (or dowel, broom handle, 1-3lb dumbell, etc.) while doing footwork is skilful practice. i will absolutely say that footwork and posture is where to begin. never skip leg mean solar day!
that is the start. when i starting time started in loftier school i did footwork wherever and whenever i could. did i look silly? yeah probably. am i praised for my footwork at present? totally. it'south worth it. and equally i've said before, having a strong stance and footwork will prevent a LOT of common fencing injuries. it will protect your knees, ankles, spine, hips, etc. etc. it is so important.

covid close down practice for several months once more, but we're dorsum! i am super out of shape as i slacked on my usual drills in that time away, but i am and then incredibly excited and joyous to return to stabbing. oh how i take missed information technology!
today was mostly single sword and some buckler against the frenchman (he/him), dustman (he/him), frenchson (he/him), and a new person who has come up one time or twice before but i haven't named here - i'll refer to her equally neko. additionally, lady anemoia (she/her) was fighting today!

Forcing schools to out students six weeks after learning about their sexual orientation puts LGBTQ+ youth in danger. Florida schools should exist a place where kids experience supported, not scared.
